Miscellaneous:
- Special thanks to the Corning Rotary Club. With their support and generosity, they will begin a project to replace tables, flag, and water fountain at Northside Park. Please stay out of the construction areas.
- I attended the ribbon cutting for the new ambulance at the Corning Healthcare District. Community partnerships between the Corning Healthcare District, The Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Tribe. The Healthcare district has also made it possible to accommodate an ambulance posting station on the campus to allow better response times in South County.
- We have started phase 2 of the Tyler Technology ERP implementation. This week we began working on data conversation and the chart of accounts.
- Staff have begun the Fiscal Year 2025/2026 Budget process.
- On Tuesday I spoke to Maywood School classes regarding careers and the City of Corning.
- On Friday morning I attended the Community Partner Resources meeting in Corning.
- Staff continue to meet with developers regarding housing and commercial developments in Corning.
CITY CLERK:
There is one Library Commission application going to City Council for approval at the April 8th meeting. If approved, we will have one vacancy. Please continue to spread the word so we can have a full Library Commission board.

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT:
Current Projects:
Tehama Street Rehabilitation Project:
- Bid Deadline was Friday, March 28, 2025, by 2:00 PM.
- The City received nine (9) bids, with VSS International as the lowest responsive bid.
- The contract is scheduled to be awarded at the City Council meeting on April 8, 2025.
Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project:
VSS Inc. is progressing with the Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project.
- City staff and the contractor are collaborating with local schools to minimize disruptions during student drop-off and pick-up times.
- The current phase of construction is complete, with work set to resume in mid-April.
City Pool Preparation:
City staff have begun cleaning and preparing the municipal pools for the upcoming summer season. Minor maintenance work will be conducted over the next few weeks to ensure the facilities are safe and ready for public use.
Building Department:
16 Inspections performed
5 new permit applications
11 Project Final Inspections completed, Including 2 new homes in the Magnolia Meadows Subdivision.
RECREATION DEPARTMENT:
Jr Cardette’s performance
The Jr. Cardette’s will perform at the Drill Team Dance Show on April 10th, marking their second consecutive year at this event. We’re excited to see them showcase their talent!

PLANNING DEPARTMENT:
Planning Commission:
A tentative parcel map will be moving forward to the Planning Commission on April 15th to separate two merged parcels (vacant land).
Housing Element:
Staff is working on the 16 zoning text amendments required by the state within our 7th cycle Housing Element. We are planning to take the Ordinance to the Planning Commission in May.
New Development:
Staff received a submittal package from the Salado Orchards Apartments Complex to build 24 new apartments, the project will go before the Planning Commission on April 15th.
ADU Ordinance:
An updated ADU Ordinance was sent to HCD for review on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Patrol:
In addition to responding to 134 calls for service, there were 150 officer-initiated incidents, including 88 traffic stops, and a total of 22 officer reports were taken. Officers made 8 misdemeanor arrests, 6 felony arrests, 4 misdemeanor citations and 11 infractions during the period of March 26, 2025, through April 1, 2025.
Dispatch:
During the period of March 26, 2025, through April 1, 2025, our Dispatch Center received 264 inbound calls for service. In addition, they responded to 32 incoming 911 calls. All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.
Training:
All Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins. Other POST online training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:
The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 22 calls for service last week, they were: 17 medicals, 1 fire, 2 investigations and 2 public service.
