Miscellaneous:
- Staff continue to work with developers on both residential and commercial developments.
- Staff continue to work on the Library Remodel Project. We are hopeful to have this project out to bid in the coming months.
- Bid documents for the road improvement project around the Olive View School area are anticipated to be completed at the end of the month. We will work with the School District regarding bidding and construction.
- Staff is working with Adams Ashby Group to submit a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). This grant funding would be for the Recreation Center and City Plaza.
- I met with Carrie Ferchaud, Executive Director of the Job Training Center and have had ongoing conversations regarding a resource center in the City of Corning.
- The Rodeo Grounds Facility is currently available as a large animal evacuation location.
- I met with Tehama County and Cal OES regarding the reimbursement process for the mutual aid that Corning Police Department provided on the Camp Fire.
- Police Department Officers will likely continue to assist as needed with Park Fire mutual aid in the coming days. STAY SAFE!

Commission Vacancies:
The City’s Airport, Recreation, and Library Commissions each have vacant position. All commissions meet quarterly on specified days the first week of the month in January, April, July, and October.
PUBLIC WORKS:
Water:
With the hot weather water leaks continue to pop up. The Public Works crew has been working diligently to address each one as they come up.
Hydrant Replacement:
The Public Works Crew worked with the Fire Department to identify Fire Hydrants in need of replacement. As they work on replacing them there will be temporary water shut-offs in the surrounding areas. Notifications will be distributed prior to any water shut-offs.
PLANNING:
7th Cycle Housing Element Update:

RECREATION:
Corning Jr. Giants:
Corning Jr. Giants are heading to the San Francisco Giants stadium this Sunday for a Festival event, we have 3 teams, over 50 youth that earned this trip by reaching their reading goals. The Corning Union Elementary School District has agreed to transport the kids to San Francisco using one of their buses. Keep an eye out for pictures and videos on our social media accounts.
Corning City Plaza and Recreation Center:
Update on the Corning City Plaza and Recreation Center, we are at 100% Design and Construction, currently COAR is working on a bid package so that we can put the project out to bid.
City Pool:
This next week will be the last week for the pool to be open. The city pool will close on August 9th. It’s been a great season, thank you to all involved and a special thanks to all the organizations that made FREE SWIM DAYS possible.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Patrol:
In addition to responding to 148 calls for service, there were 91 officer-initiated incidents, including 20 traffic stops, and a total of 29 officer reports taken. Officers made 6 misdemeanor arrests, 3 felony arrests, issued 3 misdemeanor citations, 8 parking citations, and 1 infraction during the period of July 25, 2024, through July 31, 2024.
Dispatch:
During the period of July 25, 2024, through July 31, 2024, our Dispatch Center received 379 inbound calls for service. In addition, they responded to 38 incoming 911 calls. All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.
Training:
All Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins. Other POST online training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.

Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:
The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 17 calls for service last week, they were: 13 medicals, 3 fires and 1 public service.
CVFD Engine:
The CVFD has an engine covering the Paskenta CALFIRE Station while their engine is working on the Park Fire.
