Saturday is the Corning Volunteer Fire Department Spaghetti Feed and the Corning Lighted Christmas Parade followed by the tree lighting!

Miscellaneous:
- City Hall will be closed on Tuesday, December 24th and Wednesday, December 25th for the Christmas Holiday.

- The 2nd City Council Meeting in the Month of December (12/24/24) has been canceled.
- All City Council Meetings will now begin at 5:30pm. We hope to see you there.

Elections:
Tehama County Elections Department has released the Final Official Report from the November 5th Elections. You can view it here:

The elected officials will do their Oath at the December 10th Council Meeting along with a Resolution accepting the canvass of votes and results of the municipal election.

Permit Report:

PUBLIC WORKS:
Community Event/Street Impact:
The Corning Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the annual Hometown Christmas Parade this Saturday, December 7th beginning at the Veterans Hall at 5:30pm. The procession will go east bound on Solano Street and end at Third Street with the lighting of the Christmas Tree. Solano Street closure will begin approximately 5:00pm to prepare for the parade and will re-open once the parade has finished.
Leaf Pick Up:
The Public Works Staff will continue leaf pick up as time allows. Leaf piles must not have branches, brush, or other debris or they will not be removed. Please make sure leaves are not blocking gutters preventing water flow.
Drainage Ditches:
The Conservation Camp Crew Members are continuing the annual cleaning of the Cities drainage ditches. They will clear brush and debris from the local streambeds of both Jewett and Burch creeks and the Blackburn Moon Drain.
Library Remodel:
The Corning Library is closed as construction for the Library Remodel Project has begun. Construction is anticipated to be complete by January 22nd
Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project:
VSS Inc., continues to work on the Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project. City Staff and the Contractor have been working with the schools to limit the impacts of those who are dropping off and picking up students. The current phase of construction is complete with construction resuming by the middle of March.
Hydrant Replacement:
The Public Works Crew worked with the Fire Department to identify Fire Hydrants needing replacement. As they work on replacing them, temporary water shutoffs will be in the surrounding areas. Notifications will be distributed prior to any water shutoffs.
RECREATION:
Basketball:
Youth Basketball registration just closed, and we have a record number of players this year. We will hold a draft on December 8th and the season will start in the middle of January. Looking forward to a great season.
Breakfast with Santa:
The Recreation department is gearing up for our 3rd annual Breakfast with Santa, this Saturday morning, a big Thank you to Corning Rotary and New Life Church for their partnership, we currently have 57 youth register to come have breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Jr. Cardettes:
The Corning Jr. Cardettes will be walking in the Hometown Christmas Parade and then teaming up with the Corning Union High School Choir to lead the community in some Christmas Carols.
The team has also been invited to perform at the Corning Chamber of Commerce Christmas Mixer on December 12th at 6:30, which we are looking forward to.
Perfect Attendance:
Corning Recreation has teamed up with the Corning Elementary School District to offer Free Class Certificates to 2 “randomly drawn” youth from each school that have been awarded Perfect Attendance. We handed out those certificates on Thursday, Look for the photos on Facebook.
Running Club:
Corning Rec is holding its first ever run. It will be 2.2 miles held on New Year’s Day Check in will be at 8:00 am and the run will start at 9:00am at City Hall. We will run through the streets of Corning in our 2025 New Year’s swag to bring a fresh new start to the year. Join us by registering at www.corning.org
PLANNING DEPARTMENT:

The next Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday December 10th the Planning Department will be taking Ordinance 711 (Digital Sign Regulations) for a first reading, and an appeal from Teresa Livingston on the denial of her use permit for a Food Truck, located on the south side of the previous Glass Blowers.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Patrol:
In addition to responding to 134 calls for service, there were 109 officer-initiated incidents, including 43 traffic stops, and a total of 25 officer reports taken. Officers made 9 misdemeanor arrests (1 of which was a juvenile), 5 felony arrests (1 of which was a juvenile), issued 1 felony citation, 2 infractions, and 5 misdemeanor citations during the period of November 28, 2024, through December 4, 2024.
Dispatch:
During the period of November 28, 2024, through December 4, 2024, our Dispatch Center received 276 inbound calls for service. In addition, they responded to 29 incoming 911 calls. All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.
Training:
Sergeant Squier attended a Less Lethal Instructor Course in Turlock. All Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins. Other POST online training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.
Staffing
Corning Police Department is happy to report that we are fully staffed! We have the Chief, 4 Sergeants, 6 full time patrol Officers (plus 1 K-9 in training), 2 CSO’s, 1 Detective, 1 School Resource Officer/patrol Officer, 1 Admin Secretary, 4 Dispatchers, and 1 Dispatch/Records Supervisor. Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:
The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 28 calls for service last week, they were: 20 medicals, 4 fires, 3 public service and 1 investigation.
Christmas Raffle Tickets:
The CVFD is still selling tickets to help fund our Christmas basket program.
Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser:
Enjoy a spaghetti dinner before, during or after the Downtown Christmas Parade this Saturday at the Fire Hall. Serving spaghetti, salad and bread from 4:30 until 8:00 for just $10.00. Proceeds to the Phommathep family.
