CITY MANAGER:
Meetings:
- Next City Council Meeting: February 25, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
Miscellaneous:
- Be on the lookout for new businesses opening. Please support our local businesses.
- Staff completed the mid-year budget update which will be presented to City Council.
- Staff continue to work on the audit and hope to have it completed in the next couple of weeks.
- On Tuesday, I met at the Magnolia Meadows development with CHIP Staff and Doug LaMalfa.
- Had a Virtual meeting with PG&E Regional Vice President regarding power and gas for the Recreation and City Plaza Project.
- Staff has been busy in meetings regarding interest from developers of residential projects.
- Youth Soccer Organization is doing maintenance on the Lennox Soccer Fields. Soccer fields are to be closed from February 8th to February 24th for field maintenance.
- Code Enforcement has been actively working on abandoned vehicles and blight.

Commission Vacancies:
Airport Commission – 1 vacant position
Library Commission – 2 vacant positions

All commissions meet quarterly on specified days the first week of the month in January, April, July, and October.
PUBLIC WORKS:
City Pool:
City Staff has started cleaning and preparing the pools for the upcoming pool season. Minor maintenance at the pools will be completed in the upcoming weeks.
Drainage Ditches:
The Conservation Camp Crew Members are continuing the annual cleaning of the Cities drainage ditches. They will clear brush and debris from the local streambeds of both Jewett and Burch creeks and the Blackburn Moon Drain.
Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project:
VSS Inc., continues to work on the Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project. City Staff and the Contractor have been working with the schools to limit the impacts of those who are dropping off and picking up students. The current phase of construction is complete with construction resuming by the middle of March.
Transportation Center Roof Replacement Project:
Four Seasons Roofing is continuing the roof replacement project. Construction is anticipated to be complete by March 3rd.
Items currently out to bid:
3-Year Striping Contract – Bid documents can be obtained through the City’s website at www.corning.org. All bids are due by 2:00 PM on February 25.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT:
16 Inspections performed
4 new permit applications
1 Code Enforcement property is currently being reviewed by Tehama County Courts.
4 Project Final Inspections Passed
The Corning Ford Service addition has now passed all final inspections and is fully operational.
RECREATION:
Pool Staff:
We are in the process of hiring our pool staff for the year 2025 and plan to have it completed by next week.
New Classes:
Corning Recreation has three new classes that just opened for registration: Ballet Folklorico, Wrestling, and Art. We are very excited to have the ability to offer them to the youth of the community.

Corning Recreation would like to take a minute to thank Wayne Webster, our Robotics and Video Gaming Instructor, for the last 7 years, Wayne has accepted a position with Shasta College and will be moving out of Corning, we will miss him. Thank you Wayne!
PLANNING DEPARTMENT:
Housing Element:
Corning 7th Cycle Draft Housing Element is posted on our website at www.corning.org for review.
Planning Commission:
The Planning Commission approved the Lot Line Adjustment, for 1938 Colusa Street at the public meeting on February 18th.
State Reports:
Staff are currently working on the annual Planning reports for the state.
Mobile Food Vendors:
All mobile and sidewalk vendors have renewed their permits for the year 2025.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Patrol:
In addition to responding to 145 calls for service, there were 130 officer-initiated incidents, including 50 traffic stops, and a total of 20 officer reports taken. Officers made 6 misdemeanor arrests (1 of which was a juvenile), and 2 felony arrests, issued 7 misdemeanor citations, 7 parking citations, and 7 infractions during the period of February 13, 2025, through February 19, 2025.
Dispatch:
During the period of February 13, 2025, through February 19, 2025, our Dispatch Center received 227 inbound calls for service. In addition, they responded to 44 incoming 911 calls. All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.
Training:
Dispatcher Gutierrez attended a Crisis Communication Skills course. All Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins. Other POST online training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:
The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 27 calls for service last week, they were: 22 medicals, 1 fire, 2 traffic collisions and 2 public services.
