CITY MANAGER:

 BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR NEW BUSINESSES OPENING ALONG SOLANO ST.

I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO SUPPORT OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES!!

Meetings:

  • Next City Council Meeting: February 11, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.

Miscellaneous:

  • City Hall will be closed on Monday, February 17th for the President’s Day Holiday.
  • The Recreation Ad Hoc Committee met this week to discuss the current state of the project and will begin to discuss programs and budgets for the upcoming fiscal year.
  • The Tuesday Night Market Ad Hoc met this week and will be getting information out to vendors.
  • Staff continue to finalize the end-of-year reports to meet state and local agency requirements.
  • We continue to meet with Tyler Technology to progress on the new accounting software project. We will begin phase 2.
  • Staff continue to meet with PG&E regarding power and natural gas for the Recreation Center and City Plaza.
  • We met with the Youth Soccer Organization regarding some work to be done on Lennox Soccer Fields. Soccer fields are to be closed from February 8th to February 24th for field maintenance.
  • I attended a local service provider networking event at the Healthcare District Office.
  • Code Enforcement has been actively working on abandoned vehicles and blight.

 

CITY CLERK:

Commission Vacancies:

Airport Commission – 1 vacant position

Library Commission – 2 vacant positions

All commissions meet quarterly on specified days the first week of the month in January, April, July, and October.

 

PUBLIC WORKS:

Library Remodel:

The Corning Library Remodel Project is nearing completion, with furniture being moved back in.

Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project:

VSS Inc., continues to work on the Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project. City Staff and the Contractor have been working with the schools to limit the impacts of those who are dropping off and picking up students. The current phase of construction is complete with construction resuming by the middle of March.

Transportation Center Roof Replacement Project:

Four Seasons Roofing has begun the roof replacement project. Construction is anticipated to be complete by February 24th.

Items currently out to bid:

3-Year Striping Contract – Bid documents can be obtained through the City’s website at corning.org. All bids are due by 2:00 PM on February 25.

 

BUILDING DEPARTMENT:

12 Inspections performed

6 new permit applications

1 Code Enforcement property nearing completion of the receivership process.

2 Code Enforcement property clearance process.

3 New business Certificate of Occupancies issued

RECREATION:

Paint & Sip

Join us this Friday, February 7th at Yaya’s Tacos for a fun and relaxing paint and sip event! (Pre-registration is required).

Volleyball Clinic:

We’re excited to offer two youth volleyball clinics, starting February 18th! Registration is now open, so be sure to sign up soon and get in on the action.

Soccer Fields:

Lennox Soccer Fields Closure: Please note that the Lennox soccer fields will be closed from February 8th – 24th for maintenance.

Our Tuesday Night Market dates for the 2025 season!

PLANNING DEPARTMENT:

Accessory Dwelling Unit Program:

Staff is working on a new Accessory Dwelling Unit flow program and updates to the ordinance which took effect on January 1, 2025.

Housing Element:

At the upcoming City Council meeting on February 11th, there will be a presentation on the 7th Cycle Housing Element and a request for the City Council to adopt it.

Corning 7th Cycle Draft Housing Element is posted on our website at www.corning.org for review.

Mobile Food Vendors:

Staff is currently working on the annual planning reports for the state and update the mobile food vender yearly permits.

 

POLICE DEPARTMENT:

Patrol:

In addition to responding to 121 calls for service, there were 119 officer-initiated incidents, including 50 traffic stops, and a total of 16 officer reports taken. Officers made 3 misdemeanor arrests and 2 felony arrests, issued 4 misdemeanor citations, 1 parking citation, and 10 infractions during the period of January 30, 2025, through February 5, 2025.

Dispatch:

During the period of January 30, 2025, through February 5, 2025, our Dispatch Center received 228 inbound calls for service. In addition, they responded to 30 incoming 911 calls. All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.

Training:

Sergeant Curiel attended a Supervisory Course, Detective McIntyre attended a Homicide Investigation course, Dispatcher Hudson attended an Active Shooter Situations course.

News:

K9 Officer Ross and K9 Ghost officially started their 5-week Handler’s Course.

 

FIRE DEPARTMENT:

Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:

The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 20 calls for service last week, they were: 14 medicals, 3 investigations, 2 public service and 1 agency assist with CPD.
