Meetings:
- Next City Council Meeting: January 28, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
Miscellaneous:
- I met with Tehama County Administrators on Thursday to collaborate, share information and initiatives.
- Staff is finalizing the asset inventory list that will be updated annually this inventory list will benefit the annual insurance renewal process.
- Staff continue to finalize the end of year reports to meet state and local agency requirements.
- We continue to meet with Tyler Technology to progress on the new accounting software project. We expect this to be a six to nine month process.
- Staff meet with the Tuesday Night Ad Hoc Committee on Thursday to start discussing plans for 2025 and future visions.
- We met with PG&E regarding power and natural gas for the Recreation Center and City Plaza on Friday.

Airport Commission – 1 vacant position
Library Commission – 2 vacant positions

All commissions meet quarterly on specified days the first week of the month in January, April, July, and October.
PUBLIC WORKS:
Drainage Ditches:
The Conservation Camp Crew Members are continuing the annual cleaning of the Cities drainage ditches. They will clear brush and debris from the local streambeds of both Jewett and Burch creeks and the Blackburn Moon Drain.
Library Remodel:
The Corning Library Remodel Project is nearing completion, with furniture soon to be moved back in.
Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project:
VSS Inc., continues to work on the Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project. City Staff and the Contractor have been working with the schools to limit the impacts of those who are dropping off and picking up students. The current phase of construction is complete with construction resuming by the middle of March.
Transportation Center Roof Replacement Project:
Four Seasons Roofing has begun the roof replacement project. Construction is anticipated to be complete by February 24th.
Items currently out to bid:
3-Year Striping Contract – Bid documents can be obtained through the City’s website at corning.org. All bids are due by 2:00 PM on February 25.
BUILDING DEPARTMENT:
This year’s Construction Trades Day, which introduces students in 8th-12th Grade to career opportunities in Construction, Design, Heavy Equipment Operating, etc.; was attended by both students, as well as the Building Official from Corning.

- 1 Code Enforcement property nearing completion of the receivership process.
RECREATION:
Volleyball:
Corning Recreation is offering a new class for youth starting February 18th we have two Volleyball clinics, registration is open.
Daddy/Daughter Dance:
Corning Recreation will be holding their first Daddy/Daughter Dance on January 31st at Rodgers Theater, we will dance to the sounds of DJ Carlo Medrano. It’s sure to be an exciting evening.
Basketball:
Corning Recreation Basketball will be starting on Saturday and continuing into March. We are ready to play! The K-2nd group will be at Richfield School and the 3rd-8th grade group will be at West Street for the first two weeks then we will bounce up to the Corning High School for the remainder of the season. Thank you to all the schools for helping us with the facilities.
City Pool:
We are currently hiring our 2025 Pool Staff, Pool Manager, Assistant Manager and Lifeguards apply here https://www.corning.org/seasonal-lifeguard-application-form/ it will be open until January 31st.
PLANNING DEPARTMENT:
Tehama County Multi Jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation Plan
The Tehama County Multi Jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation Plan has been updated and is on the City of Corning website for review and comments, the comment period is open until January 31st.
Housing Element:
The Corning Planning Commission heard a presentation on the 7th cycle Housing Element on Tuesday night, the commission voted 4-0 to recommend the Corning City Council adopt the Draft Housing Element at the February 11th meeting.

Use Permit 2025-333:
The Corning Planning Commission approved Conditional Use Permit 2025-333 which proposes to establish a residence above a commercial business located at 1312 Solano St.
Mobile Food Vendors:
Staff is currently working on the annual planning reports for the state and update the mobile food vender yearly permits.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Patrol:
In addition to responding to 141 calls for service, there were 119 officer-initiated incidents, including 18 traffic stops, and a total of 27 officer reports taken. Officers made 8 misdemeanor arrests and 3 felony arrests, issued 5 misdemeanor citations and 1 infraction during the period of January 16, 2025, through January 22, 2025.
Dispatch:
During the period of January 16, 2025, through January 22, 2025, our Dispatch Center received 266 inbound calls for service. In addition, they responded to 35 incoming 911 calls. All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.
Training:
All Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins. Other POST online training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:
Department responded to 25 calls for service last week, they were: 21 medicals, 3 public service and 1 investigation.
