Meetings:
- Next City Council Meeting: March 25, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
Miscellaneous:
- I attended the Tehama County Career and Technical Education Coalition meeting on Monday.
- The Fiscal Year Audit has been completed, it is scheduled to be presented to City Council at the March 25th City Council Meeting.
- We have started phase 2 of the Tyler Technology ERP implementation. This week we began working on data conversation and the recreation platform.
- Code Enforcement has been actively working on abandoned vehicles and properties with blight and considered a public nuisance.

Airport Commission – 1 vacant position
Library Commission – 2 vacant positions

All commissions meet quarterly on specified days the first week of the month in January, April, July, and October.
PUBLIC WORKS:
Tree Removal:
- PG&E has identified (2) two City trees on North Street that cause safety concerns. Wright Trees has been contracted by PG&E to begin removing the trees of concern on March 17, 2025. They will haul the wood and chip all the fronds. All work will be completed in 1-2 days.
Items currently out to bid:
- Tehama Street Rehabilitation Project – Bid documents can be obtained through the City’s website at corning.org. All bids are due by 2:00 PM on March 28.
City Pool:
City Staff has started cleaning and preparing the pools for the upcoming pool season. Minor maintenance at the pools will be completed in the upcoming weeks.
Drainage Ditches:
The Conservation Camp Crew Members are continuing the annual cleaning of the Cities drainage ditches. They will clear brush and debris from the local streambeds of both Jewett and Burch creeks and the Blackburn Moon Drain.
Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project:
VSS Inc., continues to work on the Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project. City Staff and the Contractor have been working with the schools to limit the impacts of those who are dropping off and picking up students. The current phase of construction is complete with construction resuming by the middle of March.
Transportation Center Roof Replacement Project:
Four Seasons Roofing is continuing the roof replacement project. Construction is anticipated to be complete by March 24th pending weather.
RECREATION:
Basketball:
As we conclude the Corning Youth Basketball season with the final game this Saturday, March 15th, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the schools for graciously providing their facilities throughout the season.
Wrestling:
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our Youth Wrestling program, starting Tuesday, March 18th, and running through early June, led by Dustin Rodgers. We’re also excited to introduce two new classes this season: Art (Parent and Child Edition) and Ballet Folklorico!
Volleyball:
Although the Volleyball clinic has ended, it will return on May 6th, and registration is now open.
Kite Day:
Join us for our very first National Kite Day at the park on April 27th! The first 150 registrants will receive a free kite to decorate and take home after the event. Be sure to secure your spot online at https://corningrecreation.recdesk.com/Community/Program.
Jr. Giants & Flag Football:
As summer approaches, mark your calendars for Junior Giants and Flag Football sign-ups, starting April 1st. We will be at the Tuesday Night Market on April 1st to help with registration and answer any questions about our summer programs. We’re also looking for high school volunteers to assist this summer, and all volunteers will receive community service certificates at the end of the season.

PLANNING DEPARTMENT:
Housing:
Staff is currently working with a few developers on possible conceptual plans for Housing in Corning.
Housing Element:
Staff is working on the different programs required by the state within our 7th cycle Housing Element.
Abatement:
Staff recently received a warrant to access the property located at 1518 Marin Street to start an abatement process.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Patrol:
In addition to responding to 153 calls for service, there were 134 officer-initiated incidents, including 59 traffic stops, and a total of 23 officer reports were taken. Officers made 6 misdemeanor arrests, (1 of which was a juvenile), 5 felony arrests, 4 misdemeanor citations, 2 parking citations, and 4 infractions during the period of February 26, 2025, through March 4, 2025.
Dispatch:
During the period of February 26, 2025, through March 4, 2025, our Dispatch Center received 272 inbound calls for service. In addition, they responded to 27 incoming 911 calls. All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.
Training:
Sergeant Pryatel attended the first week of his Supervisory Course in Susanville. CSO Estes and CSO Hansel attended a Property & Evidence Seminar in Oxnard. All Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins. Other POST online training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.
News:
Officer Rodriguez completed his Field Training and is now a solo officer. PD staff joined several area elementary schools to serve breakfast, read, and visit with students.
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:
The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 22 calls for service last week, they were: 18 medicals, 2 public service, 1 agency assist and 1 investigation.

Please be fire safe, make sure all exits are clear, you have functional smoke alarms, and all family members have an exit plan. All homes should have at least one fire extinguisher.
