- Next City Council Meeting: March 25, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
Miscellaneous:
- I sat on the Tehama County Solid Waste Manager interview technical panel on Monday.
- I met with Tehama County Administrator Gabriel Hydrick and Red Bluff City Manager Tome Westbrook.
- Staff will begin the work to complete the Development Impact Fee Comp Study.
- The Fiscal Year Audit has been completed, it is scheduled to be presented to City Council at the March 25th City Council Meeting.
- We have started phase 2 of the Tyler Technology ERP implementation. This week we began working on data conversation and the recreation platform.
- Code Enforcement has been actively working on abandoned vehicles and properties with blight and considered a public nuisance.

PUBLIC WORKS:
Items currently out to bid:
- Tehama Street Rehabilitation Project – Bid documents can be obtained through the City’s website at corning.org. All bids are due by 2:00 PM on March 28.
City Pool:
City Staff has started cleaning and preparing the pools for the upcoming pool season. Minor maintenance at the pools will be completed in the upcoming weeks.
Drainage Ditches:
The Conservation Camp Crew Members are continuing the annual cleaning of the Cities drainage ditches. They will clear brush and debris from the local streambeds of both Jewett and Burch creeks and the Blackburn Moon Drain.
Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project:
VSS Inc., continues to work on the Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project. City Staff and the Contractor have been working with the schools to limit the impacts of those who are dropping off and picking up students. The current phase of construction is complete with construction resuming by the middle of March.
Transportation Center Roof Replacement Project:
Four Seasons Roofing is continuing the roof replacement project. Construction is anticipated to be complete by March 24th pending weather.
BUILDING:
- 25 Inspections performed
- 10 new permit applications
- 17 Project Final Inspections completed, Including 4 new homes in the Magnolia Meadows Subdivision.
RECREATION:
New Class: Art (Parent and Child Edition)
Our new Art class kicks off Thursday, March 27th. This is a great opportunity for parents and children to get creative together, so don’t miss out!

Sign-Ups for Junior Giants and Flag Football – April 1st
As summer approaches, be sure to mark your calendars for Junior Giants and Flag Football sign-ups starting April 1st. We will be at the Tuesday Night Market on April 1st to assist with registration and answer any questions about our summer programs. We’re also seeking high school volunteers to help with our summer activities. Volunteers will receive community service certificates at the end of the season.

PLANNING DEPARTMENT:
Housing Element:
Staff is working on the different programs required by the state within our 7th cycle Housing Element.
Code Enforcement:
Staff recently received a warrant to access the property located at 1518 Marin Street to start an abatement process.
The Corning APR has been completed and submitted to the state.
New Development:
Staff received a submittal package from the Salado Orchards Apartments Complex to build 24 new apartments, the project will go before the Planning Commission on April 15th.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Patrol:
In addition to responding to 141 calls for service, there were 198 officer-initiated incidents, including 100 traffic stops, and a total of 20 officer reports were taken. Officers made 14 misdemeanor arrests, (6 of which were juveniles), 4 felony arrests, 12 misdemeanor citations, 1 unclassified, 1 parking citation, and 7 infractions during the period of March 12, 2025, through March 18, 2025.
Dispatch:
During the period of March 12, 2025, through March 18, 2025, our Dispatch Center received 284 inbound calls for service. In addition, they responded to 31 incoming 911 calls. All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.
Training:
Dispatch Supervisor Knight attended an Assertive Supervision/Leadership course in Santa Cruz. All Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins. Other POST online training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:
The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 29 calls for service last week, they were: 19 medicals, 4 public service, 2 mutual aid fires, 2 mutual aid traffic collisions, 1 carbon monoxide and 2 hazardous conditions.

Carbon monoxide detectors generally last around 7 years, if you get an alarm open your doors and check the date of manufacture. Call 911 and the CVFD will respond to check your residence.
