CITY MANAGER:
Leaf pick up is happening!
Thank you to our Public Works crew who worked diligently through the wet weather to reduce water ponding and flooding in areas.
Events:
- There are a number of events scheduled for the holiday season. Be sure to check out the City of Corning Recreation and Chamber of Commerce webpages and social media.

- City Council Meeting: November 26, 2024, at 5:30 p.m.
Miscellaneous:
- City Hall will be closed on Thursday, November 28th and Friday, November 29th for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
- The 2nd City Council Meeting in the Month of December (12/24/24) has been canceled.
- All City Council Meeting will now begin at 5:30pm. We hope to see you there.
- Staff continues to work on finalizing changes on the updated Housing element. These are changes required by the State.
- Met with Red Bluff City Manager Tom Westbrook and Tehama City Administrator Carolyn Steffan.
CITY CLERK:
Elections:
Tehama County Elections Department has released the 5th unofficial report on processed ballots. There is still a little over 9,000 ballots that are unprocessed. You can see the unofficial report here: https://www.tehama.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/5th-Unofficial-Report.pdf

Commission Vacancies:

BUIILDING DEPARTMENT:
Permit Report:
- 23 Inspections performed
- 7 new permit applications
- 11 Permits issued
Business Permits:
- The new Corning Food Center has brought in a new project coordinator. The project is now advancing well.
- The TA site has submitted all documents for removing all possibly hazardous materials and is taking steps to ensure future safety.
PUBLIC WORKS:
Leaf Pick Up:
The Public Works Staff will continue leaf pick up as time allows. Leaf piles must not have branches, brush, or other debris or they will not be removed. Please make sure leaves are not blocking gutters preventing water flow.
Drainage Ditches:
The Conservation Camp Crew Members are continuing the annual cleaning of the Cities drainage ditches. They will clear brush and debris from the local streambeds of both Jewett and Burch creeks and the Blackburn Moon Drain.
Water:
City Staff recently conducted an inventory of all water service lines, which is the pipe that connects your home, building, or other structure to the water main. The purpose of the inventory is to identify the material of these service lines and fittings, including the customer-owned side of the water service line.
Staff sent out notices to residents that have service lines that have been identified as an unknow material. Staff have started field inspections on all service lines of unknown material to identify the material classification and expect this process to be completed by December 2025.
Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project:
VSS Inc., continues to work on the Almond and Fig Street Rehabilitation Project. City Staff and the Contractor have been working with the schools to limit the impacts of those who are dropping off and picking up students. The current phase of construction is anticipated to be complete by December 6th with construction resuming by the middle of March.
Hydrant Replacement:
The Public Works Crew worked with the Fire Department to identify Fire Hydrants needing replacement. As they work on replacing them, temporary water shutoffs will be in the surrounding areas. Notifications will be distributed prior to any water shutoffs.
RECREATION:
Running Club:
Corning Recreation is holding its first ever run. It will be 2.2 miles and held on New Year’s Day. Check in will be at 8:00am and the run will start at 9:00am at City Hall. We will run through the streets of Corning in our 2025 New Year’s swag to bring a fresh new start to the year. Join us by registering at www.corning.org
Basketball:
Youth Basketball registration is open for youth K – 8 We will hold a draft on December 8th and the season will start in the middle of January. The registration deadline is December 1st.
Holiday Season:
We are gearing up for the Holiday season, we have the popular Santa Letter Program, Breakfast with Santa, Christmas Craft Workshop, and few other things happening this holiday season. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram, so you don’t miss out on all the fun.
POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Patrol:
In addition to responding to 142 calls for service, there were 95 officer-initiated incidents, including 44 traffic stops, and a total of 30 officer reports taken. Officers made 3 misdemeanor arrests, 4 felony arrests, issued 4 parking citations, 2 infractions, and 3 misdemeanor citations during the period of November 13, 2024, through November 20, 2024.
Dispatch:
During the period of November 13, 2024, through November 20, 2024, our Dispatch Center received 303 inbound calls for service. In addition, they responded to 33 incoming 911 calls. All calls were answered within 10 seconds of their ring time.
Training:
All Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins. Other POST online training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.
Staffing:
Corning Police Department is thrilled to announce that our new K9 has arrived and has been paired with Officer Ross. They will begin their training soon. We look forward to seeing their progress and keeping everyone updated!
FIRE DEPARTMENT:
Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:
The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 19 calls for service last week, they were: 16 medicals, 2 fires and 1 public service.
Sandbag filling station:
Sandbags are available at the fire hall, 814 5th Street. You will be provided with bags and a shovel. The sand is across the street in the empty lot. There is no charge, but you will need to fill up your own bags.
