SCHEDULES:

JULY 20-23rd:  City Manager Kristina Miller will be out of the office.

JULY 22 – 23rd:  Assistant Public Works Director Steve Lindeman will be out of the office.

AUGUST 4TH – 9th:  Public Works/Engineering Consultant Robin Kampmann will be out of the office.

 

PLANNING/RECREATION:

Planning:

Training:

Christina Meeds will be starting a UC Davis Planning course this Friday through September 3rd via zoom.

City Population Count:

Based upon projections of the latest US Census estimates and the Department of Finance, the population of the City of Corning is 8,002, this is up from the 2020 total of 7,625.

Recreation:

Food Truck Tuesday:

Staff continues to prepare for the first Food Truck Tuesday event to be held on August 3rd.  Please share the event dates with everyone you know.

Recreation Classes:

Summer Recreation is going well,  Our Jr. Hip Hop Dance class is working on a routine to perform at the Food Truck Tuesday Event on August 3, the robotics class will be doing a demonstration at the event as well.  Our Photography class just received safety reflective yellow vests, for while they are out taking photos; they will also be participating in the event by taking photos.  If you see them out and about, give them a big cheesy smile.

 

PUBLIC WORKS:

Part-Time Public Works Landscape and Maintenance Worker:

The Application submittal deadline has been extended until filled for the part-time landscape and maintenance worker position.  Applications can be found on the City website.

Water Main/Service Repairs:

  • The service line leak on Marguerite Avenue has been repaired.
  • The service line leak in the alley behind the City Hall has been repaired.

Vandalism:

The inside of the bowls at the skate park and the restrooms at Woodson Park were tagged with graffiti.  Staff has cleaned up the graffiti in both locations.

 

POLICE DEPARMENT:

Patrol:

In addition to responding to 163 calls for service, a total of 35 officer reports were taken and there were 135 officer-initiated incidents, including 33 traffic stops.  Officers made 15 misdemeanor and 3 felony arrests.  Officers issued 20 citations, of which; 13 were misdemeanors, 2 were infractions, 4 were parking and I was unclassified during the period of July 14,2021 through July 21, 2021.

Training:

Officers continue to participate in POST Portal Training and Lexipol Daily Training Bulletins.  Other POST on-line training continues for Patrol and Dispatch personnel.

FIRE DEPARTMENT:

Corning Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) Call Volume:

The Corning Volunteer Fire Department responded to 25 calls for service last week, they consisted of:  18 medicals, 2 fires, 4 public service, and 1 investigation.

The Orland, Capay, Artois, and Butte City Volunteer Fire Department Call Volumes:

The Orland, Capay, Artois, and Butte City Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to a combined total of 120 calls for service last week, they consisted of:  10 medicals, 3 fires, 3 traffic collisions, 3 investigations, and 1 false alarm.
